Adventures Upon A Glass Beach
We walked upon a beach where the sand was littered with glass, the edges worn soft by the sea.
We climb among the rocks where the tide pools lie,
And when we look into them, we are looking into another world.
Below the surface lie limpets, sea snails, hermit crabs, and sea urchins; all going about their merry way.
Gingerly, we pick our way among these little worlds,
Exploring them one by one,
And gathering forgotten bits and pieces of these miniature underwater worlds to bring home to you.
Here is a sea snail shell that may have once become a home to a hermit crab,
But then, perhaps he grew too big and he had to leave again.
And here is another one of our riches,
A dollar;
A little sand dollar found among the bits of glass that shimmer green, and white, and blue;
And I think that we found bits of porcelain among them too.
And here are the little limpet shells,
And the tunnels of old sea worms.
Oh, there was just so much to explore and learn!
And here they are;
These little remnants of our day.
Think of how they have come all this way.
And here they are from their little worlds to yours,
Sharing stories and secrets never before heard.
