Love Comes With A Price “Have you ever heard of the binding of one soul to another? Of the talismans of eld? Of the familiars whose lives are eternally entwined with anothers, So that when one dies, so does the other? No... Then come close and let me tell you a story that will make your heart ache. If ye have not heard of these things of which I spake, then surely ye have heard of the old souls’ deaths; The ones who die of broken hearts and follow their beloveds into the world-beyond-this. Yes...I thought ye wouldst have. Well, that is because of the entwining of hearts; A rare old magic strong as death itself, The ultimate expression of love. This is the give it all, no turning back kind of love, The love that drives people to suicide and madness. You can ask anyone who has ever truly loved and they will tell you that such a love has a price; And that it is a heavy price to pay. An' so, here is the tale I have come to tell: Once in the wimples of time, Not long ago at all, There was such a bond forged; A binding instigated by God Himself. The girl was meant to live, And this was the only way; To forge a bond strong enough to negate the desire to die. But it was a cosmic game of Russian roulette. How many souls had ever survived? She was born with a fire in her veins; But would it be enough? To give her a reason to fight the pain now, only to be mortally wounded later...and still die. God thought that it would be worth that chance, And the game was set. The girl was favored with a familiar in the form of a cat; It's soul specifically created to mirror her own, and fit where the malformed piece of her soul had withered and died of neglect; For it had been too delicate to last a lifetime in this world. As you may not know, the soul is the most finely wrought and delicate piece of a being, And you would be surprised to know just how many beings bear a broken and bruised soul. Some survive longer than others, But in the end, it is always a terminal injury to the soul, and so, to the body. And so, some years passed. Their lives entwined. And this cat provided the girl a reason to fight and stay alive; Though her soul was heavy with the pain and anguish of life. And then the time came, and she was gone; Like a flame extinguished, Like a wisp in the night. The girl's heart broke as the tears coursed down her cheeks, It was all too much. God lost the game. Her soul left her body to join that of her beloved whom had gone before her. How could He expect her to succeed where so many had failed? And so another soul paid the price for love.”
