Sacred Ground
In this beautiful wildness I find that I am alone.
The sun has set.
It is dark here;
Dark and quiet and full of peace.
I look up into the stained-glass sky of this hollowed cathedral;
My life escaping this body on my breath.
Its cloud hangs frozen in the air before dissipating into tiny crystals.
Far off –
Somewhere beyond these woods lies another time,
Another life.
But now is the time to drink in all the beauty that surrounds me,
And remember;
Remember who I am,
Remember why I’m here,
Remember the sacredness of this place we tread so freely.
All this will not last forever.
All too soon it could be gone.
So,
I shall take my time in this hallowed place–
Breathe it all in.
For I know that when I return;
In some distant time,
This may all be…
Gone.
